Valle Vidal
The 100,000-acre Valle Vidal was deeded to the Forest Service in 1982 by the Pennzoil Company and is some of the premier hunting country in the state. Take an 80-mile journey through the valley to see mountain lakes and summits and wandering elk and deer. The road is unpaved and the campsites are primitive, but the landscape is worth the journey! Hikers will like the McCrystal Creek Trail, three miles of an easy-to-follow road which leads to the old cabin ruins dating from the late 1800s. Backpackers will enjoy the 13-mile Valle Vidal Loop Trail, which crosses over a wooded ridge to upper Comanche Creek Valley and loops back. Excellent fishing is available in the Valle Vidal, especially at Shuree Pond. The ponds are open July 1 through December 31 and are stocked with 15-inch or larger rainbow trout. One pond is reserved for anglers under 12.
