Colonias
On the west side of the Pecos River on Hwy 379, 16 miles northwest of Santa Rosa, is the town of Colonias. The settlement, established in the 1830s, was originally called Las Colonias and is one of the oldest settlements on New Mexico's eastern plains; early villagers were farmers but hunted buffalo in the fall. A few families still live here.
