Newkirk
At the Junction of I-40 and Hwy 129, 27 miles east of Santa Rosa, is the little town of Newkirk. Its original name was Conant and it was settled in 1901 when the CRI&P Railroad came through and named it for James P. Conant, an early rancher. Later the name was changed to Newkirk by a homesick settler from Newkirk, Oklahoma.
