Caprock

At the turn of the century, hardy and hardworking men and women moved to the rich lands along the Caprock in search of better lives. The common procedure was to start a homestead, dig a well, open a store and register a post office. Many times the post office would be managed by wives and mothers — probably because they could handle their postal responsibilities while taking care of children and managing a household. Often the newly-created town would be named for the homesteaders. Perhaps the homesteading couples in these five Caprock settlements knew each other.
